All Ages Students Introduction to

Tibetan Buddhist
Meditation

Modern life is often filled with anxiety and stress. For young adults this can be particularly challenging in a world full of social media, peer group pressure, and establishing your identity as an adult.

Distracted minds such as anger, worry and fear cause us endless difficulties in life. Discovering that each and every one of us has an inner world of compassion, love and wisdom can help alleviate these everyday problems.

Research based evidence shows that meditation can be helpful for relaxing the body and mind as well as supporting students’ ability to concentrate.

Our teachers are happy to run classes in schools or welcome students to Tara Institute in the beautiful meditation hall. Sessions typically include some explanation of Tibetan Buddhism and how it came to the west, the role of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and an explanation of the central tenets of Buddhism such as the Four Noble Truths and how they relate to contemporary life. These sessions can also be catered to your particular needs.

“If every 8 year old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world within one generation.”

— Dalai Lama XIV

Children have an inner source of wisdom, and if cultivated, can stand them in good stead for navigating life’s challenges. Distracted minds such as anger, anxiety and stress cause us endless difficulties. Discovering that each and every one of us has an inner world of compassion, love and wisdom can help alleviate these
everyday problems.

The power of meditation to calm the mind and bring balance to our world cannot be underestimated. A simple secular mindfulness meditation is offered as part of the session. Research based evidence shows that it can be helpful for relaxing the body and mind as well as supporting students’ ability to concentrate.

The presentation can also lean more towards introducing mindfulness and meditation skills as a means to discover an inner source of happiness.

A Share article from Erasmus Primary: Exploring Tara Institute

Erasmus Primary School's Year 4 students recently visited Tara Institute, where they were introduced to the practice of mindfulness meditation, explored Buddhist teachings, and engaged in thoughtful reflections. Led by senior monk Geshe Lobsang Dorjee, the visit provided students with a meaningful experience, fostering calmness and curiosity about Buddhist culture. Their reflections highlight the deep impact of this immersive learning opportunity.

(For more on the visit, check out Erasmus School's reflection here)
